Music Monday-Jimmy Buffett "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season"

It has been a year since I had any extended time off from the jobs. I am tired, and in need of some rest. In the next few days, I will be loading up the car to head to the beach for a few days. As such, I find it appropriate to post some Jimmy Buffett music.

Music Monday-Zac Brown Band & Jimmy Buffett "Knee Deep"

Zac Brown and Jimmy Buffett together is a recipe for a good time.  Another reason that I like this song is that it reminds me of a vacation I took with a group of friends to Myrtle Beach, SC.  One of the lines in the song says, "Only worry in the world is the tide gonna reach my chair."  As we were getting ready to leave to head home, I remember all of us looking out of our balcony window watching the tide roll in.  One of us had left a beach chair down on the beach.  As the tide rolled in, we wondered if it was going to take the chair out to sea.  It signified the end of our vacation.

Music Monday-Jimmy Buffett "Take Another Road"

I feel like a little beach music on this first Music Monday of the month of June, and there is nobody that does beach music better than Jimmy Buffett.  This one is from the 1989 CD "Off to See the Lizard" back when Jimmy still had most of his hair and hadn't started to look like a grandfather.

Wasted Away Again in Margaritaville

Jimmy Buffett 080128-N-3235P-221 MIDDLE EASTER...Image via WikipediaWhen I first signed up for Facebook, I really wasn't sure what I would use it for, if anything.  In fact, after I signed up, I probably let my account languish for a year or so.  I didn't really start using Facebook until one of my two best friends from high school sent me a friend request.  Then I started to try to find family and friends on Facebook.

As I got more involved in doing things on Facebook, I noticed that some of my family members had gotten involved in playing various games on there.  So, I started to play a few of those games as well.  Maybe I should say I got lured into playing them.  I started off with Mafia Wars and eventually added Farmville and others.

At one point, I think I was probably playing five or six games.  They were starting to take up a considerable amount of my precious free time in the evenings.  I eventually got to the point where I decided that I was going to cut back on the number of games I was playing.  At this point, there are probably two games that I play consistently, Farmville and Scrabble with my parents.  There are one or two that I occasionally play when I really have extra time.

While I was on my trip to Chicago last week and waiting in O'Hare for my flight home, someone near me was reading a copy of USA Today and a headline caught my eye.  The article announced that Jimmy Buffett was working with a game developer to bring a Margaritavile themed game to Facebook.

First and foremost, I am an avowed Parrothead.  I have been listening to Buffett music for over 30 years now.  I have read all of his books.  I have eaten at Margaritaville restaurants in Key West and the local Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant here in Maryland.  Needless to say, when this game launches on Facebook, I will be looking for my lost shaker of salt somewhere near the Port of Indecision.

On the 5th Day of Christmas-Ho Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum by Jimmy Buffett

To celebrate the season of Christmas, I will be presenting 12 straight days of posts related to Christmas.  We will call it, for lack of a better term, "The 12 Days of Christmas."  Real original, I know.  Some of the posts will be serious, some will be fun, but all will deal with Christmas in some way, shape or form.

I have to admit that while I don't like when it is oppressively hot, when the weather gets cold, especially bitter cold, I start to think of warmer climates and the beaches. Sometimes I wonder if old Santa Claus ever gets tired of being at the North Pole surrounded by snow, ice, and elves. Do you think he ever thinks of heading off to the Caribbean for some boat drinks?

On the 5th Day of Christmas I present Jimmy Buffett and "Ho Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum."

Music Monday-Kenny Chesney "Anything But Mine"

Sure, it is the middle of December and everybody is thinking about Christmas and the holidays, but whenever the weather starts to get cold, I like to think of the beach.  To me, you can never have enough "beach music."  Usually for me, that entails listening to a lot of Jimmy Buffett, but I really like this song by Kenny Chesney.  It captures the idea and feelings of a romance at the beach coming to an end as the summer draws to a close.

Music Monday-Jimmy Buffett "He Went to Paris"

Last week was a frustrating week for me. Nothing major, just some inconveniences and minor setbacks.  We had a car in need of some major repairs, the screen on my cell phone went black on me, and the external hard drive that I had a lot of music and photo files crashed on me.  In the grand scheme of things, all very minor compared to what some folks are going through.

In thinking of my week and what to song to pick for Music Monday, I thought of a line from Jimmy Buffett's "He Went to Paris" that says "Jimmy some of it's magic, and some of it's tragic, but I had a good life all the way."  It is one of my favorite Buffett songs, and one of the songs that I used to sing to my son as a lullaby when he was a baby.

Music Monday-Jimmy Buffett "Boat Drinks"

I have spent the better part of the last two days shoveling out the two cars from the two feet of snow that fell Friday and Saturday.  I am physically exhausted and unbelievably sore.  The worst part is, I just saw a weather alert saying there was a winter storm watch is in place for the area for Tuesday night and we could get another 5 or more inches of the white stuff.  There is just no place to put anymore snow.

I was checking the Capital Weather Gang and they say we only need one more inch to surpass the second snowiest winter in DC history and only nine inches to surpass the snowiest winter ever of 1898-1899.  That is over 100 years ago for all you global warming cultists out there.  Right now, they are saying that four inches is a decent bet and that eight or more inches a distinct possibility.

I don't know how much more of this I can take.  I am definitely sick of the snow and suffering from a bit of cabin fever right now.  I have made enough progress with the shoveling that I will be able to get the cars out tomorrow.  So, even though it is a few more hours until Monday for me, here is my choice this week for Music Monday, "Boat Drinks" by Jimmy Buffett.  It pretty much sums up how I feel today.

Music Monday-Jimmy Buffett "A Lot to Drink About"

I took advantage of one of the gift cards I received for Christmas to buy Jimmy Buffett's new CD- "Buffet Hotel."  The last track is called "A Lot to Drink About."  With everything going on in the news, we certainly do.  Fortunately Buffett debuted the song at his Margaritaville Cafe in Key West and it was there on YouTube for us all to enjoy.

The Day After Christmas

Well it is the day after Christmas.  Time for everybody to hit the malls to exchange the gifts they didn't like and to use those gift cards.  I ventured out this morning to cash a check and to hit Best Buy to try to get the new Jimmy Buffett CD with a gift card I received.  Unfortunately they did not have it in stock.  Even if they did have it, I don't know if I would have had the patience to wait in the long line.

As I left the house, I noticed that nearly all of the snow from last week was gone.  Temperatures are a bit warmer this week and it had been raining most of the night.  I am particularly grateful for the warmer temps because the weatherman said we had over an inch of rain.  Had it been snow, we would have had another foot of snow.

The thing that was most enjoyable about our Christmas was how peaceful it was.  There was no music blasting next door and there was barking dog out back.  I guess our neighbor was celebrating the holiday with family or friends and had been away.  About an hour ago, I started to hear a dog barking.  I looked out the front window, and sure enough, our neighbors car is back.  Yep, Christmas is officially over.

Music Monday-Jimmy Buffett "Who's the Blonde Stranger"

Whenever it gets cold, I need to hear some beach music. Since we got our first snow on Saturday, I gotta have some Jimmy Buffett. This is the story of a married Texas couple who head out to the beach for vacation. While there they both fall victim to temptation.  Jimmy Buffett and "Who's the Blonde Stranger."

Music Monday-Jimmy Buffett "Son of a Son of a Sailor"

Ocean City, MarylandImage via Wikipedia

I just got back from a few days in Ocean City, MD. Damn do I love the ocean. If I could find a job in a beach town where I could support the family, I would go in a minute. So in tribute to the sea for Music Monday is Jimmy Buffett singing "Son of a Son of a Sailor" live in San Diego. The video also includes footage from the USS Ronald Reagan.

On The Twelfth Day of Christmas DRT Gave to You

Merry Christmas. Today we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. However, as a devout Parrothead, I also have to acknowledge the birthday of Jimmy Buffett.
