Sarah Palin Resigns

Sarah Palin announced yesterday that she will not be seeking re-election to the governorship of the state of Alaska. As such, she will be stepping down from the position by the end of the month.

When elected governor, Palin had promised no more politics as usual. Since she was chosen to be John McCain's running mate in the 2008 presidential election, she has faced a number of attacks from opposition. She cited those attacks and the cost to the state of Alaska as reasons why she was not going to seek re-election. She also stated that she considered taking advantage of her "lame duck status" but decided that would not be in the best interest of Alaska.

She gave no specifics as to her future plans other than to say that she would continue to fight for those things that she believed in, and to campaign for those who share in those ideals. GOP Chairman Michael Steel says he will be speaking to Palin soon and that she is an important voice in the party. Speculation exists that the move could lead to her making a run at the Senate or the 2012 GOP Presidential nomination. Regardless of what she decides to do, I am sure we have not heard the last from Sarah Palin. At least, I hope not.
