The incident occurred on May 5th (Cinco de Mayo) and assistant principal Miguel Rodriguez asked five teenagers to remove their flag clothing or go home because he was concerned it would offend students of Mexican heritage who were celebrating Cinco de Mayo. The teenagers each said they were not intending to offend anybody but wanted to show their patriotism. Two of them said they were also of hispanic descent.
Let me state my position boldly and in all capitals; IT IS NEVER INAPPROPRIATE FOR AN AMERICAN CITIZEN TO PROUDLY DISPLAY THE AMERICAN FLAG. I will probably be labeled insensitive or possibly racist by the liberal elite. I could care less, I have already been called racist for disagreeing with Obama. If you are offended by US citizens displaying the US flag in the US, then I say to you TOO FUCKING BAD.

The principal of this school was undoubtedly more aware of the culture and atmosphere in his school than either you or I. Granted that we both believe flag-waving Americans should be free to wave their flags (or, as in this case, cover their torsos with their flags) whenever and wherever they wish, but we should probably allow this principal the latitude to maintain order and discipline in his school has he deems fit and necessary.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone should ever have the right to tell anyone else what they can and cannot wear, whether it be a school or otherwise. However, the fact that these particular students decided to wear the flag that particular day, I'm sure was done either as a protest or to make a point which could have incited a problematic situation. So, while I feel the intent of the students was wrong they should not have been sent home.
ReplyDeleteThey are in the United States of America, if someone wants to wear the American flag any of the 365 days of the year you have no right to complain and get them kicked out. this multiculturalism that has infected America like an necrotizing infection spreading and eating the good parts of America. Instead of promoting an American culture like we used to, we get this. Where you are insulting someone "in your own country" by wearing your flag or colors. ReplyDeleteI think it's not about inappropriateness or racist about the action of the school official. I think he was just trying to minimize or prevent the possibility of chaos or disorder.
ReplyDeleteFreedom is not supposed to be a matter of "what you want to do, you can do it and it's nobody's business..." There's still a place for freedom and that is why unrestrained freedom leads so many people to problems, troubles and ills that beset not only the society but the whole world as well.
This is the United States of America, if someone wants to wear the American flag any of the 365

flag. The time when you can not show your own flag or colors in you own country is the End of
Freedom. I don’t see any need to restrain patriotic symbols in you own country.
