Now that the Minnesota Vikings, and therefore, Brett Favre, have been eliminated from the playoffs, the yearly speculation of whether or not Favre will retire or play another year has officially begun. According to ESPN, Favre told Ed Werder that it was "highly unlikely" that he would return next season. He also says in the enclosed clip that he does not want to make a decision based on the loss against the Saints, but that he will make a decision fairly quickly.
So far, he has retired in each of the last two seasons only to come back shortly before the season was to begin. Speculation around his future swirled in the last few seasons before the so called "retirements" of the last two years. Regardless of what he says in the next month or two, I will take it with a grain of salt. If he announces that he plans to play again next year, then great, he has shown he can still play. I only hope that if he does announce yet another retirement that this time he really means it.
